These file extensions, which stand for ‘static induction transistor’, fall in the category of compressed files and are quite common. Smith Stuffit software runs these compressed files, since their formatting is suitable for use on the Macintosh systems. One can create the SIT files and open them using the platforms for both Windows and Macintosh.

Allume systems, formerly known as Aladdin Systems, developed the program that runs these files. Smith Micro distributes and develops these files. For a person to open the SIT files one should use either ‘WINRAR’ or ‘WINZIP’, which are files that have the ability to cross from one platform to another. Another file that people can use to open these files is the ‘Stuffit’. Raymond Lau created the ‘Stuffit’ software utility though other computer experts have improved on it to enable it, to enable it function effectively on the newly developed Windows Operating System versions.

The performance of the SIT file entirely depends on the devices or computer channel parameters. Using old versions of this file on advanced software may cause the computer software to function poorly since it may also cause massive loss of data. The use of Stuffit expanders is necessary in the opening of these files since they enable a computer accept this file. The Stuffit expanders are free, thus this means that one can download them and install them on their computers without incurring any costs. This software does not operate under the Mac OSX, though it can assist in opening the .ZIP files and other files as well. One may use the Expander program to open the files but if the users have massive amounts of data to send and store, they should use the Deluxe version.

The Expander program is suitable for people with average amounts of data because its storage capacity is quite limited. Users can download this file from Apple.com, since it provides a link to the file as well. The file contains an SAS version, Random Access program, which is responsible for the integration of intelligence software or services. All versions have two-character codes, which detect the compatibility of these SAS files. The SIT files alternatively serve as compressed files. Moreover, they require professionals to install them because they have a complicated installation process. Though the program is not harmful, people who do not understand how to install these files should hire computer experts to do it for them because they could end up damaging other installed computer applications.

The 3GP file extension identifies a multimedia format created by Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). This multimedia format is normally used on Third Generation mobile phones but can also be used on some 4G and 2G mobile phones. The 3GP format is a simplified edition of MPEG-4 Part 14 (MP4) container format.

The format has been specifically tailored to decrease bandwidth and storage requirements so as to offer accommodation for mobile phones. This container format also stores various video streams as AMR-NB, AMR-WB+, AMR-WB, HE-AAC, or MPEG-4 Part 2 or MPEG-4 Part 10 or H.263. 3GP files are always big-endian and store or transfer the most important bytes first. The file also holds descriptions for image bitrates and sizes. When this file format is moved to a computer, users can view 3GP movies on Windows, Mac and Linux platforms using the VLC media player and MPlayer. Users can download programs like QuickTime, Media Player Classic, GOM Player, Totem and RealPlayer. A number of cell phones use this format for 3GP videos.

The 3GP player 2008 identifies a 3GP player that can be used on most systems. This multimedia format also offers support to other video formats for mobile phones like 3G2 (3GPP2), MPEG-4 and 3GP. A majority of the audio and video codecs can also supported by this file format. The 3GP Player 2008 is a user friendly application that can be obtained for free allowing users to watch 3GP videos. To convert 3GP video files from a mobile phone to popular PC formats like MP4 or AVI, users require the free 3GP Video Converter. This enables users to take out audio from the 3GP video file format. Free 3GP Video Converter. This application can also be used to convert 3GP video files recorded with one’s cell phone to a more common computer video format for instance, AVI or MP4 or from commonly used computer formats back to the 3GP format. The 3GP converter is normally adware and spyware free and is safe and easy to install and run.

The 3GP specification is intended to evolve the GSM specifications used nowadays, known as UMTS system. There are various 3GP websites developed to offer visitors 3GP Mobile Videos, Mobile Music and Videos. These sites offer a wide collection to enable users to locate music video for use on cell phones. With 3G technology, users can receive and send bandwidth-intensive data like video conferencing, video, web data and audio.

Widget is a very small program, which enables a person store files on the desktop. These files do not come as a package from the computer manufacturer; instead, a person has to download it from Yahoo!

Konfabulator, which was the former owner of this file but later Yahoo absorbed it and it began operating under the Yahoo management. Konfabulator still runs some files on its own such as the ‘opera Widgets’. Other engines that run this file include Kapsules, Stardock DesktopX, and Avedesk engines. Though these files are not common, Yahoo controls, manages and avails them to people who would want to use them on their desktops. Prior to installing them, one has to acquire an installation program.

After installing the program that enables the program or file to function on one’s desktop, one may access Yahoo and download it from there. After downloading the file from Yahoo, one has to activate a ‘dock’, which manages the file as it functions on a person’s desktop. This file is not harmful though using it wrongly may cause fatal damage to the computer software. If a user does not know how to download the software from Yahoo, one may access the services of computer analysts or computer experts though they may offer their services for a fee. Downloading Widget files without installing the software may cause it not to function effectively and it may destroy other files in the end. It destroys other files by relying on their installation software for maintenance support.

‘Author’ elements provide information concerning the author of the file and it should always appear when one is saving this file. These files may be in the form of calculators, alarms and clocks, when downloaded onto a person’s desktop. They can also inform a user of their WiFi signal potency. One may also have ‘sticky notes’ on their desktop when they have downloaded the program or file from Yahoo. People can also download Widget files on their phones to enable them to various features to their phone menus. Some of the features that one could add to their phone menu include internet strength detectors. Users may also covert these files to Facebook applications or they may use them on igoogle instead. People do not require programming experience for them to download and/ or activate the file either on the computer desktop or on their mobile phones.

Anyone who has handled graphic images will already be familiar with QIF, which stands for Graphics Interchange Format. QIF files are widely renowned for compression of data in addition to images.

CompuServe is recorded as having been the developer of QIF back in 1987 although many other entities have made numerous alterations since then. Alternatives to QIF files include PNG and JPEG among others with the choice depending on the attributes of the images to be used.

There are various uses of QIF applications both on and off the World Wide Web. Many games, which rely on low colour, use QIF as a storage format for their sprite data. Similarly, QIF files also come in handy when handling small animations in addition to film clips that operate at a low resolution. When making art products, which require a small number of colours and lines that have sharp features, QIF would be the ideal format, as it will bring out all the features with the required precision. However, those handling digital photographs will be disappointed due to the limited colour capacity of QIF files. QIF is also characterised by its use of palettes, these tables indicate the number and other attributes of colours present on each package.

To have QIF files on one’s computer, there are several options. The user may decide to save such images from a web page or take their own pictures using a camera, save them onto their computer and use them in QIF. Another option would be to scan and save QIF images on the system, and finally the user can draw such graphics using appropriate tools. However, before the user can access the QIF files, he or she needs to have installed a particular software or program for picture viewing that supports the QIF format. In addition, the setup and running of QIF files will be directly dependent upon the smooth operation of the related programs in which it is being used such as Power Point and Adobe.

QIF users will encounter some errors whose origin is easy to identify and address. To start with, one may encounter trouble if they try to load a QIF file that is either incomplete or corrupted. Similarly, if they use an inappropriate command then they will not get very. Other problems will usually arise based on the size of the QIF file that one is handling. If it is bigger than the available space on the computer the user will encounter some problems.

This file function transfers greyscale bitmap images. Its author is Jeff Ponskanzer. PGM files also serve as intermediary storage alternatives for conversion of other file formats.

PGM files are entirely involved in the imaging process, which is categorised into several groups such as acquisition, display, transformation, image processing, recognition as well as file format support. Acquisition is the very first function in any imaging system or process. It is after acquisition that an image is manipulated in various formats. Image acquisition is also referred to as image capture. Images are acquired from various sources, which include file systems, databases, documents, image repositories, internet, scanners as well as medical diagnostic tools or equipments. Image acquisition or capture is enhanced by PGM files.

Another important function in image creation includes display. This enhances image management and manipulation. There are various image display attributes, which include anti-aliasing enhancement, dithering, contrast, brightness, gamma correction, Orientation, color reduction, rotation, and auto-aspect ratio. Some effects include wipe and blocks. Another major attribute of image display includes high-speed display. Display plays a role during printing because it enhances orientation of the image before printing. Printing functions include auto-color minimization, single/ multi-page printing, automatic sizing of a page as well as automatic centralization of printing pages. This enhances page placement to obtain an ideal print out. Another important function involved in image development includes transformation. For quality image creation, the SDK should concentrate on transformation of figures or images.

Modern image applications are required in alteration of the image from, one form to another. Image transformation is necessary in order to preserve image quality, meet laid down network specifications or requirements. This is also important when following enterprise guidelines or specification. Image transformation is necessary while eliminating compatibility problems between numerous imaging applications. An ideal SDK should read as well as write imaging format to meet transformation requirements in addition to specifications. Another important function of imaging that utilizes PGM files includes image processing. The SDK assists software developers in compression, filtering, color conversions, image editing, geometric transformation as well as the enhancement of images.

This allows the manipulation of images to meet required the standards as well as specifications. Other functions comprised in the image-processing component include region of interest, compression algorithms, automatic error detectors, transition functions, pixel assessors, multimedia supporters as well as image invertors. Another important function includes recognition, which enhances the speed as well as efficiency of image capturing or acquisition. This function is also important in image extraction process. Common methods used in recognition of images include barcode as well as optical character recognition method. All these processes utilize PGM files.

The NTH file, which is an acronym for Nokia Theme File, is useful in the creation of themes in mobile phones exclusively for Nokia. Nokia authored and formatted this file thus, to download it one has to pay a fee.

The mobile phone file allows for the formation of pictures, ring tones and icons in all Nokia mobile phones. The advanced versions of this file assist in the production of quality images, icons and ring tones and this enables mobile phone owners personalize the settings on their mobile phones. Nokia uses this file in some of their mobile phones such as S40 series. Some of the phones under this category include Nokia 6300, Nokia 6230 and Nokia 6125. People may also download this file into their computers accessing it via the internet.

After downloading it to one’s computer, one may transfer the file to their mobile phone by use the of Bluetooth software. Alternatively, a phone owner may use USB transfer or USB cables to transfer the NTH file. The browsing software in a computer enables a person to drag the file to the phone as long as they activate their Bluetooth software service first. When downloading the file, the computer will automatically store it in the ‘downloaded documents’ file. One should avoid leaving the Bluetooth software activated when it is not in use because it over uses the mobile phone’s battery. Once a person transfers the NTH file to a mobile phone, it is automatically saved in the gallery. One should immediately switch off the Bluetooth and apply it where necessary.

The main purpose of the file is to enhance some of the features in a mobile phone such as the quality of the background, ring tones and quality icons. One may also directly transfer the NTH file to their phones if they are WAP enabled. WAP enables people access the internet using their mobile phones and if a person has it, there is no need to use a computer to download it. This file is not compatible to S60 Nokia mobile phones that have SIS files installed in them. One may alternatively download the files in the .ZIP format or other similar formats. A mobile phone owner may do this by unzipping it using WinRAR or WinZip on the computer and then transferring it to the phone. Subsequent to this, one should switch off the phone, if it requests so, and then switch it on again.

Mpg, or as it is more commonly known, Mpeg-1, carries a specification of multimedia, video, or movie file type. The Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) developed it, and they developed its standards as well.

Audio and video compression standards are ever evolving, as witnessed from .Mpg, .mpeg, .m1v, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .mpe, .mpv2, and .m3u. Transmission rates of roughly 1.5 million bps, or bits per second, permit these standards’ progressive coding. Its common short name is MPEG-1.

CD-i and Video-CD media use this file format, which was designed specifically for them. When one uses this standard, the quality is slightly lower than that of a regular VCR recording. The implementations that are common to the MPEG-1 format are 352×240 at 30 fps (frames per second). The m1v extension applies to files that are elementary streams of MPEG-1 that contain just information on video. .Mpg or .Mpg extensions typically apply to streams of MPEG-1 systems that contain (MP2) MPEG-1 Layer II audio that is encoded and encoded video of MPEG-1.

.mpeg and .Mpg file extensions are not the exclusive use of streams of MPEG-1 systems, as frequently, streams of MPEG-2 programs use .mpeg and .Mpg file extensions, but the difference is that they contain video that is MPEG-2 encoded. Due to the fact that operating systems by the Microsoft Corporation provide decoders only for MPEG-1 video. The media player on Windows cannot play streams of MPEG-2 programs without the installation of an additional decoder of MPEG-2 (also called a DVD decoder pack).

MPEG-1 was the initial audio and video compression standard, and was later adopted as the standard of Video CDs (VCD), which includes the layer 3 (MP3) format for audio compression. MPEG-2 is the audio, video, and transport for television of broadcast quality. MPEG-3 was designed originally for HDTV (High Definition TeleVision) but later abandoned for MPEG-2 with extensions, which is sufficient enough for HDTV. MPEG-4 is an expansion of MPEG-1 that supports audio/video ‘objects, encoding at low bitrates, 3D content, and Digital Rights Management support. MPEG-21 characterizes an open framework for applications of multimedia. Video data and audio data stored within MPEG files could have different limitation compression codec.

Mpg’s content categories are moving image, and its format category is bitstream encoding, and file format. In order to fix errors related to the .Mpg file extension, it is advisable to run a registry scan and a system scan as well.

For the storage of language data in its separate forms or all languages into one file, multi-language programs and applications mostly use the LNG file extension (LanNGuage).

The format of the files may vary but always comprises of strings of user interface, program menus, and so on for the specified language. Additionally, it refers to the Adobe Acrobat language plugin vdkhome and language extensions (LAHEY FORTRAN).

LNG file extensions are opened using basic text editors, because these files are mostly typical plain text. File formats for common databases also can view these file extensions, therefore there is no requirement for file and search analysis to unlock, edit, view, or open these files. The file type is Acrobat Language Plug-in, with a list of plug-in files. LNG adds support for supplementary languages within Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe Acrobat is the program used most commonly for opening these files.

In case Windows cannot open LNG extension files, one should check whether the appropriate program has been installed or if there is a registry error. In order to fix .lng file errors, run a registry scan, and a recommended system scan. Some file extension faults are caused by incorrect associations, therefore system scans identify and prevent further association faults. To optimize the use of the Central Processing Unit and memory for LNG files, apply a performance scan. By fixing errors related to LNG, one stabilizes both their applications and their systems. Slowdowns and system errors are often caused by outdated drivers; therefore scanning your computer for drivers that may be outdated is a good idea.

There are twenty known language files with the file extension LNG, and a few of them are danish.lng, english.lng, italian.lng, finnish.lng, portuguese.lng, french.lng, and german.lng. Other common .lng files are spanish.lng, hebrew.lng, and czech.lng.

A file used by Ptakks called irunin.lng has been found to be spyware, or related to other spyware. The privacy and security of the user’s information saved in the computer might be at danger with the installation of this file. One could rid themselves of this spyware through a spyware scanner, or by manually deleting it. While trying to delete this malware manually may put the computer at risk, it is recommended for the safety of personal data stored therein. Some of this malware is from applications that act as parasites, which infect the PC with threats such as viruses, Trojans, adware, spyware, and other malware.

Written by Sun Microsystems, JNLP, which stands for Java Network Launch Protocol, and is a protocol with XML 1, which can be used to deploy Java and applications such as JavaFX on the operations of the internet.

JNLP was made under a process known as the Java community. It was called JSR 56. The process includes 1.0 release, which was the original one, the 1.5 release that came afterwards and the 6.0 maintance release that came later. JNLP has some rules that govern the implementation of the launching mechanism. The JNLP files consist of information like the exact position of the jar package file. The files also include the names of the application’s main major class. If one’s browser is properly configured, they can pass JNLP files to a Java runtime environment in addition to other parameters belonging to the program. The environment belonging to Java run time is usually tasked with downloading applications onto user’s machines where they are executed.

JNLP works on a scheme known as the client –server. The client reads, then executes the JNLP file (XML) file and eventually contacts a similar file on a server in the web to get help. The client usually runs locally on its system while the server is implemented by a servelet and is often used only for superior features of the protocol. To get the services of JNLP, one has to install a JNLP Client, also known as Java Web Start. One can make the installation of the client automatic to make end users see the client launcher downloaded automatically and installed as well prior to the Java application when they launch it for the first time.

One important feature of the web start is it can automatically install and download a JRE If a user does not have Java in their computer settings. It also helps programmers specify which version of the JRE is needed to make a given program run. One other thing is a person using the internet does not have to be on the internet to perform executions on the programs they have downloaded. The reason for this is the programs will be executed from a cache that is locally maintained. Another thing that makes it worthwhile to deal with the JNLP is one can get the automatic updates concerning the software from the internet web when they are still connected to it. This can help remove the need for deployment.

Img is the file format used for ‘disk images’ commonly used on Macintosh-based computers. Img files contain exact copies of the every element of DVDs, CDs or floppy disks. This duplication preserves the information’s original structure, eliminating the possibility of data loss.

When using Macintosh computers, Img files are mountable in the same way floppy disks and optical disks are inserted. Windows on the other hand requires specialized programs to open Img files. An example of such vital programs is WinImage. This program extracts the files in the same manner the extracting from StuffIt, RAR and ZIP archives works. The other option available to those with access to Macintosh is to copy Img files on to the Macintosh, open the, copy them out and then recopy them onto the Windows computer. A distinction must be made between this format and Macintosh Disk Image, the one used by Roxio Toast, Apple Disk Utility, Aladdin (now Allume Systems) ShrinkWrap, Apple Disk Copy for Mac OS even though they share a common file extension. Later versions of Mac Os like Mac OS X now recognize the dmg extension. Another file type using this format contains data copied from a compact disk by a clone compact disk. EZB Systems UltraISO, IsoBUster and SlySoft CloneCD contain this type of file.

When dealing with Img files, a number of possibilities are available. User can easily turn tons of very old but useful disks into simple disk images for storage on the computer hard drive for recreation only when need arises. When used in combination with a compact disc creating tool, Img readers and converters allow for the creation of custom boot disks with virus cleaning or hardware diagnostic software for effective troubleshooting. With files in the format under discussion, a computer user saves plenty of time that would have otherwise been used is system restoration and reconfiguration.

Files using this file format contain raw dumps of content disks. Disk Copy Fast and IMA are incompatible with Img. For effective support, users must obtain WinRawrite, RawWrite, RaWrite2 and GNU RaWrite. Version of Nero Burning Rom preceding version 6.0, supported this format for users who wanted to create bootable CDs. The software’s preferred format is IMA. The popularity of this file format goes back to DiskDupe and HDCopy, both based on the DOS command line system. Apart from replication of disks, the Img file format is useful in the transmission and storage of digital material.

This file falls in the category of encoded files and it is common. Macintosh created this file and compressed it from eight bits to about seven bits. The main function of this file is to maintain the file integrity to enable users access internet downloads.

People can also transfer files into or out of their computers after scrutiny by this file, thus ensuring that the integrity of the file is maintained. One may transfer documents by bonding both the resource fork and data fork to form one archive. Only two programs can open the HQX files namely Mac OS and Windows. The Mac OS requires a user to install either the new version of Smith Micro Expander or an iArchiver in their computers for them to download this file. For users who want to download this file using Windows, they should install programs such as ZipZag, Smith Micro Deluxe Stuffit, Corel, WinZip and ESTsoft ALZip.

It would be difficult for one to download this file without installing any of the named programs. Unlike most files, one only has to click the HQX file once and it will download immediately. One may decompress these files after downloading them as long as they have Binhex files installed in their computers. It is not compulsory for one to install the Binhex file because all it does is expand the files capacity. In order to avoid having trouble when downloading, one should ensure that their browser configures in a manner to read .hqx files. Users should locate ‘helper applications’ and select ‘suffix.hqx’. If it does not read ‘Stuffit’, the users should browse or search until they locate it in their computer. If it is not available, the best thing to do is access the services of computer experts to have them install it for them.

People interested in downloading the HQX file should have Acrobat Reader set up in their computer because without it, one may not be able to download it. Adobe is available for downloads on the internet free therefore, one does not have to incur any expenses when installing it. Users also have the option of using the Aladdin Systems utility to download the HQX file. If the computer system has a virus, one should hire computer experts to clean the malicious applications prior to installing any software. Viruses also have the tendency to eat into software and installing these programs in infected computers may result in extra maintenance expenses.

Many accomplished musicians can attribute the success of their compositions to working with Guitar Pro. The computer software usually abbreviated as GP3 usually performs two main tasks. One of the tasks is to help musicians study music.

The software offers superior play back capabilities that make it easier for music students to study. Another role the software plays is to make it easier for musicians to make compositions. It does so by editing straight into a musical partiture and tablature. If one is in need of a MIDI sequencer, they can use Guitar Pro as well because that is another role it plays. Guitar Pro can allow a musician to develop whole scores relating to the banjo, bass, guitar or any other instrument with strings within a few minutes.

Guitar Pro consists of Tablature editor, which is very important if the user, wants to make a composition. Audio playback can also be found in the software and it helps when one wants to listen to a piece of music again. Scale tools, digital tuners and chord diagrams are also contained in the GP3. One can also come across a metronome, speed trainer, ASCII Import / Export & MIDI and guitar Fret board in the software. GP3 can work under any operating system that comes with Java Runtime Environment 1.4 or any other installed afterwards. Normally it works under Linux, Mac Os, BSD, Solaris, and Windows.

If the user encounters problems opening a GP3 file, it means that the correct program has not been installed, or the program was installed incorrectly. Another reason for the problem could be that the system may be experiencing an error related to the registry. Incase such a situation arises; the user should immediately run a registry scan to rectify the problem. Some errors in a computer can be directly linked to the GP3 file. Incase such errors occur the user should run a registry scan to counter them. Incase the performance of the computer system has been affected; the user should run a performance scan to boost CPU usage and memory among other things. Outdated drivers, can as well cause the computer to perform poorly. One can remove these outdated drivers by running a scan through it. The GP3 itself is not a malware, Trojan or virus and it does not come with any serious security risks to the operating system. The GP3 file is user friendly and many people understand it. It is effective as well.

Free Lossless Audio Codec, FLAC, is an audio file format similar to MPEG Layer 3 (MP3). The major difference is that there is no loss of quality. Even though the ZIP format works this way, FLAC offers much better compression since it is made for audio files.

It is the fastest most commonly used audio codec, apart from being the only non-proprietary one of its kind. Its application programming interface (API) is well documented. It supports tagging, fast seeking and cover art. Most OSs (Operating systems), Linux, BSD, IRIX, OS X, Solaris, BeOS, OS/2, Windows and Amiga included support FLAC.

The description ‘free’ means much more than availability at zero cost. It also means that the specification is completely available to members of the public, for any purpose. The stated format and its implemented encoding or decoding methods are not patented. Under any existing open source license, users can access the source code. The lossless capability is achieved through bit-for-bit encoding. Each frame has a sixteen-bit cyclic redundancy check used in detecting any transmission errors. Integrity is maintained via the use of MD5 signatures of the unencoded audio file data. Comparing the two is the best way to check for integrity during testing and decoding. Since the file format is asymmetric, favoring decode speed, FLAC is fast. The decode algorithm requires integer arithmetic, making it less computer sensitive when compared to a majority of perceptual codecs. Most hardware allows for real time decoding. Flexible metadata is another primary feature of FLAC, as applications can prepare specialized metadata on registering their identification. This makes it easy to define and implement new blocks of metadata that can be of use in the future without having to break older decoders and streams.

With reference to storage, FLAC enables efficient archiving. The format is open and eliminates the common problem of generation loss that plagues conversion. Despite the MD5 signatures and the CRCs, there is an additional ‘verify’ option, which decodes encoded streams parallel to the whole encoding process. Comparison of values follows. If there is a mismatch, the process aborts, reporting an error. These features also enable CD archiving using ‘cue sheet’ metadata blocks. These give computer users a chance to store a CD’s content table as well as index and track points. The last main feature of FLAC is that the format is error resistant. This is due to the framing method used. Stream errors limit frame damage where errors occur.

Divx is an Encoded Movie File that falls in the category of video files. It is a highly compressed and high-quality video codec normally used for distribution of digital video and video compression with minimum quality loss.

This technology for video compression is a product of Divx, Inc. It also maintains 1080HD video resolutions. A number of DVD players and other electronics, which support the Divx file extension, recognize Divx formats. This file format allows users to create and play videos of high quality in convenient and fast ways, while at the same time maintaining quality.

Programs opening the file on a Mac Operating System include Apple QuickTime Players that have the Divx codec, Divx Mac players, Roxio Toast and VideoLAN VLC media player. In Windows Operating System, the programs used to open the file are Divx Windows player, Apple QuickTime Players that have Divx codec, CyberLink PowerDVD, DVD X Studios DVD X Player, SlowView, Core Media Player and Roxio Easy Media Creator.

Some applications and encoders for Divx offer the alternative of using Divx file extensions for files encoded in Divx. The file is similar to .avi files but with extra chapters and subtitles. Any program that reads avi files is capable of reading them leaving the extra additions for programs designed for Divx files.

Divx file formats designed by Microsoft come with an enhanced video codec based on MPEG 4. These video formats consist of a combination of MP3 and MPEG 4 sounds giving them good digital quality. The codec offers about 10:1 compression ratio and therefore is capable of compressing movies and different types of videos.

Divx codec is a common codec designed based on MPEG-4 due to its speed, efficiency and quality and the various DVD players, which support the format. Movies made using this file format offer great image quality just like DVD movies. The format is also suitable for downloading movies with limited bandwidth. This enables one to fit a movie easily into a CD while retaining the original DVD quality. This video format is combined with MP3 and AC3 audio for high-quality sound. All these aspects are a contributing factor making the format popular for downloading online videos and movies.

Installing Divx codec is an important add-on to a system. It enables one to decompress and compress Divx format videos. You will also have an opportunity of watching Divx videos using the various software that enable one to open the file. If one wants to install Divx codec, download new or updated versions available online then follow the instructions given for installation.

CSV is an acronym for Comma Separated Value. Files in this format are useful in the exchange of data from one application to another. It has joined the ever-growing list of legacy formats, which include XML.

In the CSV file format, each record appears as one line, though fields may have line breaks embedded. Commas separate fields, for instance Jane,Doe. The leader and trailer space characters next to any field separators have no effect and are ignored by the system. Jane , Doe translates to “Jane” and “Doe”. Fields that have embedded commas require delineation using the double-quote character. If for some reason, some fields contain double quotes, they still require double quote characters. So is the case for failed with line breaks. In CSV format, the first initial record may appear as a header with column or field names. The reason for this is that no clear mechanism exists to discern automatically whether the initial record is in fact a header. Generally, an external process is necessary, even if it means presenting a user prompt. The header row encoding takes the form of a normal CSV record, following the stated syntax.

Despite the above discussion, there is no standard format governing CSV, although the most commonly used specification is the ‘eight hundred pound of gorilla CSV’. It is not technically elegant or pretty by any stretch of the imagination, but the worlds’ renowned software development companies use it. The reason why it should be widely adopted is that it allows for universal export and import of data. This is the essence or interoperability. With the growth of the communication industry where convenience is a catchword, transferability is paramount. Companies using less known formats have no intention of having their applications read or written by others. Others do this in the hope of setting a trend that the public will adapt. A good reason for doing this is that technically advanced formats of CSV might be easier to conceive.

CSV has one great advantage over the XML format as far as new design specifications go. It has a far lower overhead, placing lower demands on bandwidth as well as storage. This advantage comes out clearly in requirements using expensive bandwidth and in cases where huge amounts of information and data must be transferred often. Another alternative is to use a hybrid implementation that easily converts from and to CSV when bandwidth efficiency is critical.
