Widget is a very small program, which enables a person store files on the desktop. These files do not come as a package from the computer manufacturer; instead, a person has to download it from Yahoo!

Konfabulator, which was the former owner of this file but later Yahoo absorbed it and it began operating under the Yahoo management. Konfabulator still runs some files on its own such as the ‘opera Widgets’. Other engines that run this file include Kapsules, Stardock DesktopX, and Avedesk engines. Though these files are not common, Yahoo controls, manages and avails them to people who would want to use them on their desktops. Prior to installing them, one has to acquire an installation program.

After installing the program that enables the program or file to function on one’s desktop, one may access Yahoo and download it from there. After downloading the file from Yahoo, one has to activate a ‘dock’, which manages the file as it functions on a person’s desktop. This file is not harmful though using it wrongly may cause fatal damage to the computer software. If a user does not know how to download the software from Yahoo, one may access the services of computer analysts or computer experts though they may offer their services for a fee. Downloading Widget files without installing the software may cause it not to function effectively and it may destroy other files in the end. It destroys other files by relying on their installation software for maintenance support.

‘Author’ elements provide information concerning the author of the file and it should always appear when one is saving this file. These files may be in the form of calculators, alarms and clocks, when downloaded onto a person’s desktop. They can also inform a user of their WiFi signal potency. One may also have ‘sticky notes’ on their desktop when they have downloaded the program or file from Yahoo. People can also download Widget files on their phones to enable them to various features to their phone menus. Some of the features that one could add to their phone menu include internet strength detectors. Users may also covert these files to Facebook applications or they may use them on igoogle instead. People do not require programming experience for them to download and/ or activate the file either on the computer desktop or on their mobile phones.
